Blogging live from the Hotel Leto here in gorgeous Mykonos, a Greek island vacation hot spot here in the Aegean Sea. We got in yesterday greeted by high winds and rain that made us quite weary. A power outage even broke out across the island for an hour or so. A mutiny almost materialized with a goal to head to a different island (as if it would be smarter to forgo our deposit, hope we get some room somewhere else, and pray we didn't experience the same weather that was affecting ALL the Greek islands). Luckily patience won out and while we were damp and cold yesterday, we were richly rewarded with summer-like temperatures. At least for us pale folk compared to the native islanders who are still sporting heavy jackets and staying inside. We had the whole beach to ourselves today (which can be kind've a drag since nothing... NOTHING... is open) and rented ATV's that took us to some breath taking vantage points. Meanwhile our diets have consisted steadily on gyros, suvlaki, and Greek salads. Mmmmmm.
Tomorrow we're hoping for the same luck weather wise as it was absolutely gorgeous. I even have some faint traces of the tan I worked so hard on last year at school in Malibu. While nothing is guaranteed, we have found plenty of things to do to keep us entertained, plus registration for my classes for next year is tomorrow. And that's always a big deal as traditionally we plan out our schedules only to watch as one by one the classes fill up before our very eyes and we are stuck with our fifth choices. Ugh.
Anyways, I hope to post some more with further thoughts on my experiences here in one of the most beautiful places on Earth. I've fallen in love with everywhere I've gone, and each strike me with alternating feelings of summering there, retiring there, or honeymooning there. But Greece so far, especially the islands, take the cake. I love London, but wow, Greece is beyond anything I was expecting.
